What works today
A single monthly spend budget
Set one overall monthly budget against the same Spend number Insights already shows — so transfers, investments, EMIs and excluded rows do not eat the limit. Off by default; clear it any time. You can keep a usual amount and override specific months (a wedding month, Diwali) without disturbing the rest of the year.
Per-day left, with bills still due set aside
During the month in progress, Glass Money shows how much you can still spend per day after subtracting what you have already spent and bills still due. Pace is honest: on pace, above pace, or over budget — without inventing category limits you never set.
A categorised record that fills itself in
When Indian banks and card issuers send transaction alerts to your inbox, Glass Money reads those alerts — UPI, cards, NEFT and IMPS alike — and turns them into transactions with a merchant, amount, date, account and category. There is no evening ritual of typing expenses in, which is exactly why the record can survive beyond week one.
Categories that are yours, not ours
Glass Money ships with built-in categories and lets you add your own — domestic help, society maintenance, a specific EMI, whatever your month actually contains. Recategorise a single transaction or a batch of them and it sticks. The taxonomy should match your life, not a template designed for someone else's.
Monthly trend and per-bank breakdown
See what you spent this month, how it compares with last month, and which account or card it came from. That last part matters in Indian households, where the salary account, the rewards credit card and the UPI-first secondary account each tell a different story.
Manual entries when alerts are incomplete
If an account had alerts switched off, or a spend never generated mail, compare Glass Money with your own bank records and add the missing activity manually after checking for an existing entry. Statement PDF upload is not a product feature — the live path for gaps is manual entry on top of alert-mail automation.
Why most budgets fail by the 10th of the month
Everyone has tried budgeting. You set neat category limits on the 1st — groceries, dining, travel, shopping — and by the 10th, real life has happened: a wedding gift, a school project, a festival, an unplanned hospital visit. The budget breaks once, tracking stops, and next month you start over.
But there is a failure that comes even earlier, and it is the one worth fixing first: most households do not actually know what they spent last month. Spending is spiky, seasonal, and split across UPI apps, cards and accounts, and manual tracking dies within weeks. A limit set on a guess is not a budget; it is a wish. Glass Money starts from the categorised month, then puts one honest overall budget on top of it.
Roadmap (not built yet)
The monthly budget is live. These are not:
- Per-category budgets (groceries vs dining vs travel as separate limits)
- Over-budget or limit alerts that ping you when a category or the month is about to break
- Budgets that adapt automatically to your spending history
Also not built on other surfaces: live Account Aggregator bank connections, investment and net-worth tracking, and a family or household view. The FAQ and investment tracker roadmap keep the full list in the open. Our monthly budget guide still helps with an India-focused framing while those pieces ship.
Designed India-focused
No currency toggles and no categories built for another country's spending. Glass Money is built around Indian issuer alert formats — HDFC, ICICI, Axis, SBI, SBI Card, Kotak, IDFC FIRST, Yes Bank, PNB, Bank of Baroda, IndusInd, American Express India, OneCard, and HSBC India, and more as formats are verified — and the UPI-first, EMI-heavy, festival-spiky way Indian households actually pay.
Private, secure, and honest
Your spending is a map of your life, and it stays yours. Access is read-only and limited to transaction alert mail from known bank and card senders; Glass Money cannot move money and we do not sell your data. The FAQ and privacy policy cover this in detail.
